Record Store Day 2015 at Slow Boat Records!
How quickly another year rolls around – suddenly it’s almost Record Store Day again!
This annual celebration of vinyl, and record stores, and independence, and good music, has been observed globally since 2008, and we here at Slow Boat have been onboard since the very start - this year it falls on Saturday the 18th of April.
Every year we have sought to bring you the very best in recorded music, including limited edition vinyl releases especially for the day (which this year will include a remastered 20th Anniversary LP reissue of Shihad’s classic second album “Killjoy”), as well as all the other stuff that people love – and frankly, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate Slow Boat’s 30th Anniversary – that’s right, we have now been serving you up the finest music since way back in 1985!
This year we are thrilled to be able to bring you what is bound to be an entirely memorable instore from some of the country’s finest musical talent – with an early start, we will have a very special live performance from one of our nation’s –hell, our PLANET’s - greatest singers and songwriters – Mr Neil Finn!!!
Neil has graciously agreed to perform some songs for us from his vast effexor price songbook – a career that stretches back as far as his 1977 emergence in Split Enz, through the chart-topping Crowded House, and, since 1997, a fascinating and varied solo career, right up to last year’s superb “Dizzy Heights”.
Also on our instore musical menu is 2014 APRA Silver Scroll winner Ms Tami Neilson – her “Dynamite” album last year was one of our absolute faves, and we are thrilled to bring you one of our brightest vocal talents; “A red-hot honky-tonker, somewhere between Patsy Cline and Wanda Jackson with perhaps just a little bit of Peggy Lee sophistication.” (Nick Bollinger, Radio NZ National)
We are also chuffed to have the services of a string quartet from Orchestra Wellington (who have a performance later that evening of Glinka’s “Kamarinskaya”, with Michael Houston).
We are excited to bring Record Store Day 2015 to you, and hope that you are able to join us for what will doubtless be a memorable day!!
