DECEMBER!!!
Well, well, well - welcome, everybody, to the final month of 2017 - a year of high highs, and more than a few low lows...
This year we said goodbye to such musical greats as Tom Petty, Glen Campbell, Fats Domino, Chris Cornell, Chuck Berry and Gregg Allman, amongst others. We had NZ tours from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Paul Kelly, Adele... and still, yet to come, there are shows from Future Islands, King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard, and, the big kahuna - Paul McCartney (which we are almost absurdly excited about!!) - truly a feast of top quality live shows.
2017 has also been all about the rise and rise of some of our brilliant female singers and songwriters - Tami Neilson, Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding, and some newbie called Lorde all registering big on the global airwaves - the latter three have all featured in end of year best album lists, while you can bet your bootstraps that Tami Neilson's new record will do likewise in 2018!
On top of all this, Slow Boat was involved in our first Record Store Day exclusive release - the self-titled debut CD album by Teeth, featuring members of the Phoenix Foundation and Muttonbirds, and they performed instore (together with the excellent French For Rabbits) on the day. It is an absolute cracker of an album - all angular guitars and driving rhythms, and if you haven't picked it up yet, we still have copies available instore fopr a measly $20, which would make an excellent stocking stuffer!
Have already begun plotting next year's event... watch this space!
We have HEAPS of stuff instore right now that will make delightful Xmas presents for the music obsessed in your life - tonnes of new and used vinyl, reissue, box sets, CDs, DVDs, tee shirts, posters - and, if the choice just seems to much, you could always opt for one of our vouchers, and let the giftee choose exactly what they want...! And if you are overseas, buying for friends or family in Wellington, drop us a line and we can arrange to deliver goodies, or a voucher!
And I know we say it every year, but we do mean it - thankyou to everyone who has supported Slow Boat throughout the year - we are proud to provide the widest selection of recorded music in town, and are grateful that you choose to shop with us, whether instore or online. We appreciate that it is a big old world of music out there, but we are stoked that you allow us to help you access and find the music you love.
Very best wishes to all our customers for the festive season - eat, drink, be merry, drive safe, be careful. And, if it all gets a bit much, we'll be open every day but Xmas and New Years days...
A whole lotta love,
XX THE SLOW BOAT CREW XX
