Hola, everybody - through the worst of winter, theoretically, and some fab stuff being released lately... Some great new stuff instore now, including the third duo album from the unlikely coupling of ex-Belle & Sebastian songbird Isobel Campbell with gruff voiced, grunge survivor and recent tourist Mark Lanegan on the excellent "Hawk" album. Also, the fine Jeffrey Lee Pierce tribute "We Are Only Riders", featuring the ubiquitous Lanegan, Nick Cave, Debbie Harry and more. Also, on the tribute tip, is an unlikely tribute to CSN man Graham Nash's highly regarded solo set "Songs For Beginners" entitled "Be Yourself" and featuring the talents of pixie-like Fleet Foxes singer Robin Pecknold, Bonnie 'Prince" Billy, Vetiver and more. Also curiously good is the newie from barrel chested Welsh belter Tom Jones, entitled "Praise & Blame" - produced by Ethan Johns (son of Stones producer Glyn, and at the helm for Ryan Adams' best stuff). Nice! Also, the new album from Barb, a curious collective comprising some of our brightest young talents, namely Connan Mockasin, Lawrence Arabia, Liam Finn, EJ Barnes and Mockasins drummer Seamus Ebbs. The self titled album is a real hoot, lots of chantalong vocals and spazzy white funk grooves - thoroughly enjoyable. Also on the Slow Boat playlist are new albums from ace producer Danger Mouse with late Sparklehorse singer Mark generic venlafaxine vs effexor Linkous (featuring guests from Wayne Coyne, Julian Casablancas, Suzanne Vega, Iggy Pop and more), "Dark Night Of The Soul"; Manc dancefloor survivors A Certain Ratio with their brand new effort "Mind Made Up"; stroppy youngsters Die Die Die with their newie "Form" on the the reinvigorated Flying Nun label; Eilen Jewell's "Butcher Holler" tribute to Loretta Lynn; gloomy San Franciscan Mark Kozelek's new album as Sun Kil Moon, "Admiral Fell Promises" (all solo, on nylon string classical guitar!); Amanda Palmer from Dresden Dolls newie under the Evelyn Evelyn moniker; or how's about former Trinity Roots sticksman Riki Gooch's epic "Great News For Modern Man", live at the Auckland Town Hall CD/ DVD set. Massive! We are also thrilled to announce that, in true 'phoenix from the flames' fashion, our favourite local promoter Galesburg is resurrected as the mighty Rushmore, and hosts the terrific New Pornographers (avec the lovely Ms Neko Case), at the San Fran Bathhouse on Sunday the 21st of November, tickets on sale now at $54.00, including booking fee. Hoorah!!! We've also got new Slow Boat tee shirts, mens and ladies sizes, black and brown (see below, at a special Slow Boat price of $27.50), a fresh selection of posters, and a heapin' helpin' of killer new vinyl - get amongst it!!!
