Wintersongs

How do, everybody?! Would like to say a huge thanks to all who came down for our Don McGlashan "Lucky Stars" instore here last Friday night. Those hardy souls who braved the cold were treated to a cockle-warming display of master-craftsman-like songwriting and performance from one of the finest our nation has produced, with a smattering of songs from the excellent new album rounded off by a performance of the classic "Anchor Me" that set the hairs on the back of your neck on edge, and reminded of just how special music can be. So, a big Slow Boat thankyou to Don, his manager Tom Dalton and to Soren from Border Music for making it happen - the show that evening at The Paramount was, by all accounts, every bit as enthralling, and if you don't have the album yet, do yourself a favour and pick one up - as fine a selection of songs as The Don has yet managed, after a lifetime of writing great songs. Well into the depths of Winter now, but, conversely, a particularly fertile time of year for new music - we have a swag of terrific remastered soundtrack LPs, with downloads - long out of print 3 faves from films such as Jaws, The Godfather and The Big Lebowski, lovingly reproduced and sounding glorious. We have reissued LPs from The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, plus a host of 180gm audiophile pressings from Dutch label Music On Vinyl - stone cold classics from Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, The Clash, Leonard Cohen, Michael Jackson, Carol King and a heap more, besides; there are new releases from the reformed Faith No More, a new, improved 2LP remaster of soon-come tourist Ryan Adams' first (best) solo album, "Heartbreaker", and then there's new albums from James Taylor, Sun Kil Moon, Sufjan Stevens, Florence & The Machine, Brandon Flowers... plus the brilliant third album from NZ-via-Portland slippery pop-funksters Unknown Mortal Orchestra, "Multi Love" (already a candidate for album of the year, we reckon...) See what I mean? HEAPS of goodness! Plus, we've got a big old swag of new posters, Slow Boat tee shirts, vouchers, DVDs - in short, everything you'll be needing to make it back through to the heady days of Spring. So - swing on by, or drop us a line - we'd love to help you out, and cheer you up! Over and out, bless up The Slow Boat Crew X
