Slow Boat Records

THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT, THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED!

Well, at the risk of giving everybody The Fear – it’s past the middle of November. Whether you like it or not, it’s time to have a bit of a think about Xmas presents…

Music – the ideal Xmas gift? It certainly can be. Find that something special for that someone special and BOOM – magic, festive season or no.

There has certainly been a swag of great music released this year – take, for example; The War On Drugs “Lost In The Dream”, Sun Kil Moon “Benji”, Lucinda Williams “Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone”, Tami Neilson “Dynamite”, The Phoenix Foundation‘s “Tom’s Lunch” EP, Bunnies On Ponies “Heat Death Of The Universe”, Courtney Barnett “Double EP; A Sea Of Split Peas”, David Kilgour & The Heavy 8’s “End Times Undone”, The New Pornographers “Brill Bruisers”, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds LP reissues, Robert Plant “lullaby … And The Ceaseless Roar”, Goat “Commune”, Bombino “Nomad”, Bob Dylan & The Band “The Basement Tapes – Raw” (both 2 and 6CD versions!)… plus, of course, the superlative The Beatles “In Mono” LPs (we have both individual LPs and the big kahuna box set in stock).

Or, dare I suggest it, reigning Queen of Pop Taylor Swift‘s entirely poptastic “1989” (vinyl due in December – can’t wait!)

Might we also humbly suggest those superb perennials from the Light In The Attic label – recent tourist Rodriguez‘ “Cold Fact” and “Coming From Reality”, plus the superb “Country Funk” compilations, volumes one and two.

We have some particularly tasty and well priced collectable vinyl around the walls – notably some great looking early original NZ and UK pressings from The Rolling Stones and The Beatles…

Or maybe check out some of the fine rare and collectable vinyl from our online listings at Musicstack generic effexor (prices in USD, but we can talk about it…), here; http://slowboatrecords.musicstack.com/

Or, you could take the angst out of giving by adding a Slow Boat exchange card, or indeed a gift voucher, in whatever amount you wish – $5? $10? $100? $200? No problemo!

We also have the city’s grooviest selection of film and music posters, Slow Boat tee shirts, DVDs, music books and mags… in fact, we have pretty well everything the music nutter on your Xmas list could crave; come see us, we’ll sort you right out!!

And thanks, everyone, for another marvellous year, flying in the face of fashion, defying gravity, as it were. The continued survival of a store like Slow Boat entirely depends on the patronage of good people like yourselves, who value what an independent record stands for in 2014. This year we have had some terrific events – not least of which was Record Store Day back in April, where we played host to genuine NZ music royalty in the form of Mr Dave Dobbyn, Ms Julia Deans, and Mr Louis Baker.

We recently hosted David Cohen‘s “Greatest Hits” booklaunch – copies available here instore now, they would also make a terrific Xmas gift. We also had an instore from one of our favourite bands, Wellington’s own Glass Vaults, whose debut full-length album can’t come soon enough…

Super cool – hope to see/ hear from you all soon, all the best for the festive season – if you are wanting stuff that needs to be imported from the US, let us know asap to make Xmas deadlines!

Bless, catch ya
