Record Store Day 2016 at Slow Boat!!

RSD logo 2016

Almost unbelievably, the much loved annual fixture that is Record Store Day is rolling around again, and Slow Boat is thrilled to bring you another superb lineup of instore entertainment to accompany the best day in the record lover’s calendar.

Two short years ago, Mr Dave Dobbyn shared with us a clutch of his (and our!) most treasured songs, and when we dropped him back to the airport he insisted “next time I play in your store, it will be with a band, and we’ll have a new record out!”

And, guess what – a man of his word, he is doing exactly that! Slow Boat is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the official launch of his wonderful new album, “Harmony House” (produced by our homeboys Samuel Scott and Luke Buda, of the Phoenix Foundation) on glorious VINYL, especially for Record Store Day 2016!! He will indeed be backed by a band, and we are tickled pink that he will be joining us again!!

Also taking the stage, in her “Songs For Bubbas” mode, will be beloved entertainer Ms Anika Moa, bringing us a sparkling new set of songs for the little ones – her first volume was a smash hit, and the very newly minted Volume 2 is entirely likely to go the same way – doin’ it for the kids!!

And finally – marvellous Wellington afrobeat/ sonic architects Orchestra Of Spheres will be laying their swirling, psychedelic soundscapes and rhythmic vibrations on us, fresh from their Cuba Dupa appearance, ahead of the release of their brand new album, “Brothers And Sisters Of The Black Lagoon”, and a lengthy European tour.

And – STOP PRESS!!  RNZ National’s terrific Music 101 Saturday afternoon show will be broadcasting buy effexor live from inside the store!!

As well as all this, there will be a swag of desirable, limited Record Store Day vinyl releases, instore specials and other treats, maybe the odd special guest – you’ll just have to come and see for yourself!!

And finally – would ask that everyone is extra patient and courteous towards each other on Saturday, as it is likely to be really busy, and we want everyone to have a great day!

Would ask that, if possible, you bring the wee ones in front packs etc to see Anika Moa – will make some arrangement regarding pushchairs and buggies, but if you can leave them at home, please do!! We have also had the OK for the bathrooms across the road at Olive Cafe and Midnight Espresso to be available for ’emergencies’/ changing – there is a foldout change table here at the store if you ask at the counter!

Also – if you are able to move away from the doorway and throughfares once you are in, it will enable more people to share the experience!
Would also ask that, as many of you are likely to snap some pretty great and candid pics, that you could tag us in them so we can share them with others? Thank you!!
Otherwise – still waiting on delivery of RSD special releases, and we are all buzzingly excited about our fave day of the record store calendar!!
