WELL then – a Happy New Year to all and sundry!!
We had a marvellous Xmas and New Year, thanks for asking, and trust that you did too! From the looks of things, quite a few people received Culture Vulture vouchers, which they have been steadily redeeming either with us, or our friends at Aro Video or Unity Books – so – well done, y’all! We have been steadily clawing ourselves up to pre-Xmas stock levels after getting a bit smashed for some Xmas faves – Lorde and Sole Mio were, literally, flying out the door… But still – there is some exciting new stuff instore, or not far off…
We are, for instance, reasonably well smitten with Light In The Attic‘s superb 3LP Mark Lanegan compilation “Has God Seen My Shadow?” – a magnificent, and long overdue anthology of the work of one of America’s greatest, and most underrated, singers and songwriters. We also have fresh supplies of Flying Nun catalogue – all your faves, from The Clean, The Bats, The Chills, The Verlaines, the 3Ds and Straitjacket Fits – these also seemed popular around Xmastime!
And – the new Bruce Springsteen album “High Hopes” is out now – both deluxe CD with “Born In The USA” Live bonus DVD, and LP vinyl , along with new albums from Rosanne Cash, Mogwai and Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks. Also new instore are The Beatles remastered US CD reissues – including Beatles VI, Something New and Yesterday And Today – an intriguing, alternate view of the Fabs’ career from a Stateside perspective. And, for something completely different – all the Slayer LPs have been remastered and reissued on glorious “Back To Black” vinyl – oh!
Also – finally now instore is the Peter Gutteridge “Pure” 2LP reissue – lots of interest in this, as it has only ever been available on cassette!
We have just re-stocked posters, and have a fresh batch of Slow Boat tee shirts in a range of colours, and Mr Hinderwell has been diligently filling the Slow Boat window with a heap of rare and desirable vinyl – some really corking stuff in there lately!
So anyway – 2014; what do we have in store for you all? Well, currently planning for Record Store Day 2014, which, if it is to eclipse, or even match up to RSD 2013, is going to have to be pretty damn special. We are doing what we can – watch this space!
Meantime, happy New Year – hope 2014 is filled with health, happiness and music for all our customers – we’ll be seein’ ya…!
The Slow Boat Crew X
PS – FYI, we now have Stiff Little Fingers tickets for sale – ’twas merely an oversight..
